Message from John

Today we are finishing up a 3 Sunday series on humility. This morning I want you to think beyond the mechanics of what humility looks like and dwell on growing in heart and mind into a state of humility from which actions naturally flow into the new and humbler you.

Below is a sort of “Humility self-exam”: Ask yourself these questions and give an honest and spiritually introspective answer (i.e. God can read your mind so don’t try cheating):

-          When people disagree with you, do you argue to defend your position?

-          Does it hurt you when those you dislike get credit or have success?

-          Do you find it difficult to admit you are wrong?

-          Do you find it difficult to say: “I am wrong.”

-          Do you inwardly react to criticism. Or, are you able to maintain a sense of calm and God-based self esteem in the midst of rejection?

-          Do you give your opinions before being asked for them?

-          Do you enjoy telling others of your accomplishments?

-          Do you talk more than you listen?

-          Do you think about talking when you are supposed to be listening?

-          Do you look for ways to be humble like Jesus?

-          Do you do things hoping for praise or compliments?

-          Are you quick to find fault and correct others?

-          Do you compare yourself with others or with God?

I have been reminded the past few weeks how almost every sin we face and commit eventually comes back to a form of pride, a lack of humility before God and our fellow travelers. Truly, humility exalts us as a nation, as a church, and as individuals.  - Humbly yours, doug

Placing Membership
Ed and Wilma Seela want to place membership with our church family. They have been sojourners and have helped so many congregations all over the country. They have worshipped with us off and on when they weren’t sojourning and have been considered members of our family for a very long time but they and wanted to make it official with this announcement. They are the parents of Keri Fleming and we are so blessed to have them in our midst on a permanent basis.

Prayer Needs

.

Pray for John Cooper on his two-week mission trip to Micronesia and Guam. Pray for the Lord to put a hedge of protection around him as he travels and give him strength for a very busy schedule.

Pray for Henry and Oneita Higgins as their family helped them move into Grand Villa (assisted living), room 201 last week.  Pray that they will adjust to their new living situation after living in their home for many, many years.

Pray for Rebecca Parks.  Her father, Robert Eli passed away last week - pray for this family as they are suffering from this loss.

Nedra Wilmarth, (sister of Ayrtle Axtell) is in Family Health West and needs our prayers for comfort.

Johnny Terry (friend of Bobby and Sherry Heath - from Breckenridge) has pancreatic cancer and recently moved from St. Mary's to Peachtree Assisted Living.

Rachel Cornelison (student from Western State) was injured in a sledding accident and has a fractured vertebrae.

Kitt Woods has a severe kidney infection and needs prayers for recovery.

Continue to pray for  Ashley Maynard (Bill Antico's daughter) who suffered a head injury after being hit by a car.  She is in the Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, is in a coma, and has a problem with her heart.  Please pray for her complete recovery and for her family and caregivers.

Timothy Karcher sustained serious injuries while proudly serving his country in Iraq.  Tim has traumatic bilateral amputations of both of his legs.  He is working with a new prosthesis and "the thought of being able to walk without pain is an answer to my prayers".

Jessica Boone (head injury) has come a long way in her rehab and is getting stronger and working hard to get better.  Give thanks for her progress and continue praying for her and her family.

Allen Avery is progressing well and he will be coming off the vent, as his body is healthy and it was only a matter of building the strength.  He is now able to use a speaking valve on his trach, continue to pray for his healing, as it has been a slow process.
