Message from John

“Do everything without complaining or arguing,…” Philippians 2:14 Not doubt you have heard our little ones recite this month’s congregational memory verse. Fairly short and easy to remember. But what a challenge to practice. It is easy to complain, easy to argue. Maybe a brief look at the scriptures surrounding this verse can help us practice what this verse commands. Earlier in this chapter Paul challenges people to share what they have received. “If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete in being like minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose” (Philippians 2:1,2). One key to not complaining or arguing is realizing how blessed we are. Share these good things with others. If you are happy with what you have and how much God has blessed you, you will want to share this with others and not all the negative things going on in your life. Later in this chapter Paul shares a result of not complaining or arguing. “… So that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe…” (Philippians 2:15). Not complaining and arguing is a different way of living. It is a way of savoring God’s goodness and standing out from those around us who always seem to have something negative to say. Let us try and overcome complaining and arguing so that others may know that God lives in us. Thank God for His protection and His provisions, John Cooper |

New Ministry ~ Marriage Keepers We are in process of forming a new ministry here that would provide support and mentoring to newly married couples. Mentors responsibilities would include praying daily for your couple for one year and creating opportunities to get together for encouragement about every other month. There is a sign up list on the table in the foyer for those interested in being mentors. If you would be interested in coordinating this ministry please see Ann Clayton. Lannell Bevill a longtime member here until she was admitted to assisted living and was unable to attend, died last month. Lannell was the mother of Eldon Bevill who is a dentist here. Our condolences to the family. Bridal Shower There will be a bridal shower at the home of Sheri Heath on March 20, 10:30 AM for Katie Clayton. Katie will marry Jeremiah Watson in May. You are asked to bring Brunch foods. Katie is registered at Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond. Food Drive March 21 We will be having a food drive to re-stock the pantry on Sunday, March 21. Items needed are: Canned meats, canned meals (stew, chili), coffee, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, spaghetti sauce, canned vegetables, soups, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, shampoo. There are also grocery lists out on the table in the foyer for your shopping convenience. Stone Martin Memorial Service There will be a memorial service for Stone Martin March 19, at 2:00 PM at the High School Auditorium in Meeker. Stone was the 9 year old son of Paul and Vanessa Martin of Meeker. He was fatally injured in an automobile accident in January. Sprung Forward Daylight Savings Time began this morning and if you forgot to set your clocks when time sprung forward then that explains why you were here so early but this does not mean you can nap during Doug’s lesson. El Nieman Injured El Nieman fell last week and broke his hip. He is now out of the hospital and is in room 131 at Mantey Heights. Please remember him in your prayers for a speedy recovery. |
