Message from John

Holly and I missed being here last Sunday. We had planned on being here but the weather on Saturday between here and there (Denver) was not real conducive to travel. We had flown down to Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, March 24 for the “Tulsa International Soul Winning Workshop” . We flew back to Denver from Tulsa on Saturday, March 27. But what got us to Denver from Tulsa, an airplane, would not get us here. To save a lot of money we were driving our car to Denver and back. And as I mentioned the roads were not the greatest so we stayed all night in Silverthorne and came home on Sunday.
One of the talks I attended was by Don McLaughlin, of Atlanta, Georgia, son of Don and Rowena McLaughlin in Gateway. Many of our men attended our Men’s Retreat with him as the speaker several years ago. In his Tulsa talk, which was “for ministers only”, he mentioned a book entitled What Got You Here Won’t Get You There. I have not read the book yet, and I think it is more about the business world. But many of the principles can be applied to our ministries, our marriages and our personal lives. We may need to make some changes in our thinking, our attitudes and our actions if we hope to go forward in any of these areas. What got us here may not get us there!
Are you where you want to be right now in your life? Do you have goals or plans yet to accomplish? Will “what got you here, get you there”? Might there be changes needed to get you where you want to be? And is where you think you want to be really where you want to be? Have you thought of eternity? How empty it would be to even get everything you want and die without hope.
The resurrection of Jesus makes available everything that is really good and lasting. It is the only thing that will get us from here to there- eternity- in good shape. In the sermon this morning we hope to see the relevance and blessing of the fact of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.
He will get us from here to there,
John Cooper

Homeless Meal
Tomorrow evening is our turn to prepare and serve the homeless meal at the shelter on North Avenue. The lasagna trays are in the foyer this mornings for those who prepare the meal and servers should be at the shelter by 5:30 PM tomorrow evening.

Food Pantry Needs

Thank you so much to those who participated in the food drive last week. However, there are still a few needed items. If you would like, the pantry is in need of macaroni and cheese, crackers, peanut butter & jelly, canned meals (chili, stew). Again, thank you for your kindness and generosity. The people who receive the food are very grateful.
