Minister - John Cooper

John has served as minister since October of 1993. He firmly believes that a congregation is healthiest and happiest when each member knows they are loved by God and are important to the body of Christ. He would like each member to find their gifts and talents and fully develop them in the Lord's service.

John places a high value on his family and is humbly proud of his three children. They all live and work in the Grand Junction area. Likewise he is blessed with a wonderful wife, Holly, who works as a caseworker for the Department of Human Services.

John has a special interest in sharing concrete, solid reasons for the faith and refers to evidences for faith from archaeology, astronomy and history. He also likes to make the faith relevant to the needs of people. He often includes practical and Biblical suggestions for better families, marriages and friendships in his preaching and teaching. He tries to address the problems facing many in our world today: depression, drugs, marital problems, raising kids, anger, materialism, hopelessness, etc., and show that Jesus is ultimately the answer to all of our problems.

John is very interested in spreading the good news locally and internationally. He makes an annual trip to Yekaterinburg, Russia to help a church there he was involved with starting in 1993. He does a regular one minute radio talk locally and visits the jail weekly. He is involved in Bible studies with visitors to the church and tries to keep in touch with both the youth and the older segment of the congregation.

John enjoys the beautiful Colorado scenery and weather. He likes to snowboard in the winter and fish and hike in the summer. "I have been very blessed to live and work in this part of God's creation," John says. "It is my hope and prayer that God will continue to bless our attempts to serve Him here and lead others to Jesus."

Associate Minister - Doug Clayton

Doug has been the Associate minister since November 2000. He works primarily with the Middle through High School ages and stays busy with planting seed in the teenage mission field, jail ministry, meeting benevolence and counseling needs, and directing church camp. He also does a regular one minute radio talk locally.

Doug Graduated from David Lipscomb University in 1983 with a double major in Speech and Bible. He earned a Master of Arts in Religion in 1988. Prior to entering ministry full time in 2000, Doug was an air traffic controller.

Doug enjoys exploring the deeper and more subtle truths of scripture. One of his many favorites quotes: "Religion is for those who do not want to go to Hell; Jesus is for those who have already been there."

Visitation Minister - Hunt Zumwalt

Hunt moved to Grand Junction in July 2004 along with his wife Myrna. This followed 50 years of ministry. He has served congregations in Midland, Texas, Durango, Colorado, Grand Junction (7th & Teller): and the last 25 years at Cortez, Colorado. Myrna retired from being a public school librarian and church secretary.

Hunt and Myrna are happy to be of service to the Grand Junction Church of Christ and the people of Western Colorado in any and every way possible. He is now serving as Visitation Minister and will be preaching and teaching some.

Hunt and Myrna are happy to now have a home in Grand Junction near family and where Myrna is a home maker and Hunt enjoys big game hunting, fishing, photography, has horses and like to work in his shop. But the Lord, His Church and God's People come first!

Secretary - Jimmye Tidwell

Jimmye returned to Northwestern Colorado, along with her husband, Bill and son, Kevin in 1991 to be near her aging parents and to return to the place she considers her home.    She spent her childhood years and graduated High School in Rangely, a booming, rugged oil field town on the Utah border.  Growing up there was a secluded, innocent life with plenty of nature to explore and enjoy.   With so much public domain in the area, it was not uncommon to find people out dirt biking, hunting, fishing, swimming in the river or just roaming the countryside.   “Small town” influences were special and character molding.

Towards the end of 2005, Jimmye was honored to fill the position of church secretary for the Patterson Road congregation.  With the illness and death of the much loved former secretary, it saddened her that the position became available under those circumstances, however, she is grateful that she has the office manager, secretary/bookkeeper skills to continue the critical office work.

Jimmye feels fortunate to be living in Grand Junction, serving the Ministers, the church leadership and a loving, dedicated, inspiring people that are her church family.  Because of their faith and love for each other, the church of Christ can only grow and prosper in Grand Junction and the Lord will bless His church in this beautiful Grand Valley.
